Where Do Results Come From?

Diana Zoth, schoolteacher from Dallas

It was Thanksgiving Day, and my sister-in-law had invited me, my son and granddaughter to spend the day and have dinner. All three of my nieces were there, and it had been a while since all of us had been together, since my youngest niece lives in Dallas. Her friend, Diana (see picture), whom I hadn't met before, was also there--standing up and trying to look comfortable.

If you have never been a chiropractor at a holiday dinner, there will generally be someone present in need of your services, feeling miserable and looking slightly pitiful, but not wanting to impose. There will also be someone there who has told this person that you are the greatest chiropractor in the world and that you are secretly flown across the sea to take care of the Royal Family (because if you walked across, it would attract the wrong kind of attention.) You get where I'm going...So, you do what you have to do. And are grateful that you can.

Here are Diana's words about her experience:

Dr. M., What an amazing difference just one treatment made! I had been in pain with my hip and lower back - part of the pain was just a dull heavy ache that had been there for a long time, and part of the pain was a sharp piercing pain that was keeping me from getting any proper sleep.

I was not aware of my hip height being different until you pointed it out, and I had no idea how restricted my right foot was. I would have wagered any amount of money that no one could have changed my foot with a cranial treatment, but you did. The difference was amazing. And my back and hip (the original problem) -- the pain just melted away. I was concerned about my long drive that was going to follow later that afternoon, but no pain the whole way. I'm convinced your cranial treatment made changes that my doctor and other chiropractors could not do.

I know I'll be making more trips to Houston! Thank you.

One reason that results like this happen is related to studying deeply. I performed a CSi (Cranial Spinal Integration) treatment on Diana, and did so with great skill. My First Rule for Getting Results is: Learn how to do whatever you do SO well that you are qualified to teach it. Then all of the healing potential in that method will be available to the patient.

The Second Rule For Getting Results: Spend Time Learning the Unfamiliar

Santa Claus, Buddha and Ganesh

If you are reading a version of this newsletter without pictures, there is a picture from my living room with a Santa Claus standing next to a fountain with a porcelain statue of the Buddha. There is also an image of the Hindu deity, Ganesh. This isn't about religion for me, it's about learning about the world around me. In case you were wondering, I was raised Reform Jewish.

I love thinking about the spirit of generosity symbolized by St. Nick. I am inspired by the deep life understanding and stillness that the Buddha represents. Ganesh, the remover--and creator--of obstacles boggles the mind. I lived in an Indian ashram for two years in the village of Ganeshpuri. I love to learn from everyone around me so that I can offer more by being more. Relax, I'm not trying to change who you are. Just consider the possibility that knowing more can be very practical.

There comes a time in every battle when you're surrounded, wounded, outnumbered and dealing with an exceptionally treacherous foe. What if you had to deal with someone who could barely sit down because of pain and could barely stand up if she had sat down? You don't have a portable table with you, just an annoyingly springy bed that's the wrong height?

CSi is made for these situations, AND I did have another recently acquired weapon in my arsenal: I had recently purchased a video course in acupressure for pain. Did I use this method on Diana, too? You bet I did.

I also used it when an old patient of mine from New York came to town, rather out of balance. She used to work with Good Morning America, but has left TV and is now a VP with one of New York's largest publishers, HarperCollins. The combination of CSi, acupressure and spinal adjusting (I saw Lisa in my office) helped her to enjoy her time with her family over Thanksgiving.

There is one giant rule that I learned in this acupressure course: Go where the pain ISN'T! The rest of the course is about how to know where to apply pressure to make the pain go away. Having spent hours going through the videos the first time. I look forward to a second viewing (since I want to follow my own first rule: Learn any worthwhile approach well enough so I'd be qualified to teach it.) Without having done that yet, though, I already know that the stuff works super well. Maybe the next time I see you, you'll get a taste of this excellent approach.

I plan to continue to scout for other promising new approaches that I can bring back to the office for your benefit over the next year. Stay tuned.

Additional Schedule Change

One schedule change that I didn't mention in my last newsletter (see http://www.drstuart.net/nov2010.htm) is that I'll be leaving this Friday afternoon (December 3) so that I can visit my mother in Florida. She's my first teacher, and it's a good time to go and honor our relationship.

Celebrate Life

The Seasons of Hanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa are approaching. Reconnect with your roots, find meaning, share love, enjoy music, exchange gifts. Have fun, travel safely.

Gift certificates for my work are available. I'll be delighted to see returning students who are in for the holidays. Just call 713.831.6875 early so that we can accommodate you.

Did I miss anything?

Holiday Blessings,
